Sarah Sigurdson introduced Salmon Arm Mayor Alan Harrison who presented a City update:

The City - the main thrust is diversity and collaboration:
  • Population increased an average 2%/year over the past 5 years
  • Infrastructure is the prime concern
  • Unique in its development of collaboration with non-profit organizations to benefit the city
Challenges:
  • Housing – purpose-built rentals are a priority
  • Homelessness – shelters & supportive housing is a priority
  • Climate change – emphasis on lowering the city’s corporate emissions
Projects:
  • Sewer, water & roads are the first priority
  • Updating water pumping stations eg: Five corners replacement
  • 5-year sewage treatment plant updating
  • Lakeshore Rd upgrade & repair
  • 55+ Games
We thanked the Mayor for his update, and also for the consistent support he and the City give to Rotary projects.
