Staff Sargent Scott West was our featured speaker  on Monday 1 February. He brought members up to date on policing matters in Salmon Arm. Calls for service  were down in 2020, but there are many more major files that take longer to process.  The Salmon Arm detachment, almost full with only 2 vacancies, consists of 20 members, and serves an area that includes Blind Bay to Salmon Arm,  Grandview Bench, Ranchero,  & Larch Hill area, Silver Creek, Sunnybrae, & White Lake,  as well as Adams Lake Indian Band, Neskonlith Indian Band and Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band.

Covid has changed the way service calls are handled - more phone connections than in-person visits. Collisions, drug issues, and child pornography cases are up since 2019.  Thefts from cars are up slightly, as are  business B & E's. Transients are creating high demand for calls-for-service downtown. RCMP is using a variety of techniques to deal with them, along with local services.
